POSTPONED. Primavera Sound 2020 Barcelona

Primavera Sound announces the most difficult decision in its history: finally we cannot celebrate the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound during 2020, as we all would have liked. And it won’t be for lack of trying. When, on March 28th, we announced the change of date to the end of August, we did so under the supervision and with the green light from the local and health authorities, who at that moment validated its celebration this year. However with the evolution of this unprecedented health crisis and faced with the uncertainty of the easing of lockdown measures for festivals, we find ourselves obliged to postpone the next edition of Primavera Sound Barcelona, for reasons of force majeure, until next year: from 2nd to 6th June 2021.

We are devastated and are terribly sorry for the inconvenience caused, but the health and well-being of our audience and of all the people involved in the festival has always been and still is our absolute priority. We cannot thank you enough for your patience, love and understanding in this very uncertain scenario.

All delegate passes that have been bought will be valid for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2021 and Primavera Pro 2021 and will include special benefits for all those who decide to keep them. As well as this option, that rewards the loyalty and faith of the festival ticket holders, it will also be possible to request a refund from next Wednesday, June 3rd, the date on which this year’s edition was originally meant to start. The festival will contact ticket buyers to inform them about the details of the process.

On that same day we will announce the first artists for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2021, whose line up will still celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival embracing the #bestfestivalforever philosophy thanks to the great commitment and effort of the artists themselves, who have also been greatly affected by the current situation and who will do everything possible not to miss this event. It doesn’t matter when it is: this will be our anniversary party and we want to celebrate it with everyone who was going to come this year.

Luckily, not everything will have to wait until next year: Primavera Pro, the meeting for professionals in the music industry, will hold a 100% virtual edition this year, from 21st to 24th July, with the aim of analysing, reflecting and debating about the innumerable challenge facing the sector in this new paradigm. More details of this much-needed congress in the current context will be announced soon.

Until then, please take good care of each other and follow the advice of the authorities at all times. The festival team continues to work intensively in order to be able to celebrate something more than just Primavera Sound’s 20th anniversary: seeing each other again, and dancing together again.

More news:

Primavera Sound Barcelona 2020 changes dates and will now take place in August

Тhere are things that only happen once in a lifetime. The current global COVID-19 health crisis is, unfortunately, one of them. But it won’t be the only one. The spirit of solidarity and collective response of society in the face of this emergency will live on for a long time, and will allow us to embrace exceptional situations and overcome the challenge… and to literally embrace each other once it is over. Faced with this constantly changing scenario, the restrictions imposed by the authorities on the celebration of public shows and on the free movement of people (making the participation of the announced artists difficult and in many cases impossible) and in coordination with the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council, we are forced to postpone the upcoming edition of Primavera Sound Barcelona for reasons of force majeure known to us all. Our absolute priority has always been to guarantee the safety of our audience, artists and all the people involved in the festival.

For this reason, given the exceptional nature of the situation in which we find ourselves, Primavera Sound Barcelona 2020 will take place from 26th to 30th August. We feel obliged and responsible to contribute insofar as we can to the survival of the live music scene, whose role will be key to the return to normality after this absolutely unprecedented situation that has never been faced before by the cultural sector and all its agents: artists and their teams, agencies, promoters, venues, festivals, stage builders, technical and production teams, bar staff, cleaning and security staff, and in general the thousands of people involved in the sector. We thank all of them for their perseverance and contribution. On our side, and with the indispensable support of Pull & Bear, Heineken® and Desperados, adidas, Aperol, Lotus and all of the festival sponsors, we will make every effort to ensure that this change, imposed as a result of the current global health crisis, affects the festival’s programme as little as possible.

The tickets already purchased for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2020 will continue to be valid for the new dates. Once the state of alarm decreed by the Government of Spain is over as well its possible extensions, we will give you more information and will reactivate the ticket sales. Moreover soon we will give you more details about NOS Primavera Sound Porto 2020. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding in the face of this unprecedented situation.

Let’s all face this together. We will get through this together. And we will celebrate our 20th anniversary together. We are waiting for you in the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona at the end of August. Primavera in summer, for once in a lifetime.

Primavera Pro, the international meeting through which Primavera Sound addresses the music sector, strongly focuses on the programming of showcases. The meeting brings to the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and to the Parc del Fòrum the most promising up-and-coming artists on the international panorama, whose presence in Barcelona is made possible by the collaboration with the music export offices of the participating countries.

In 2020, the musical proposal at Primavera Pro will be more diverse and richer than ever, with several countries participating for the first time in the programme. This is the case of Greece, the Mediterranean lighthouse that will debut its most outstanding bands through the brand new office Gre.ex. The Basque Country will also be present for the first time, which will allow audiences to take the pulse of an area with a great musical tradition and activity. And we will celebrate the return to the event of Argentina, a key player in Latin American music. Also Austria (Austrian Music Export), Chile (Chilemúsica), Hungary (Hungarian Oncoming Tunes), Ireland (Music from Ireland), Italy (Italian Music Export, A Buzz Supreme, Modernista, Puglia Sounds), Luxembourg (music:LX), Poland (Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland), Taiwan (Ministry of Culture of Taiwan – 9Kick), Uruguay (MEC, Ibermúsicas, Uruguay XXI) have confirmed their attendance. The representation of the Catalan scene will once again have the stamp of Catalan Arts, principal collaborator of Primavera Pro.

The artists that will represent each of these places will be announced soon, as well as the rest of the participating countries that, from the 3rd to 7th June 2020, will make Primavera Pro an essential event for music professionals. It will be an opportunity to discover and see firsthand the emerging talent of those names that will be the talk of the town in the near future, as were Javiera Mena, Fontaines D.C., Noga Erez, Didirri, O Terno, Él Mató a un Policía Motorizado and other artists for whom Primavera Pro marked a turning point.
